"Who else would I be thinking about?" the 39-year-old singer-songwriter shared. "And by the way, it’s a testament to the fact that I have not dated a lot of people in the last five, six years. That was my only relationship. So it’s like, give me this, people."
“I’m a young guy. I like girls. I want girls to like me," Mayer acknowledged about his famous-dating past -- from Perry, to Jennifer Aniston, to Taylor Swift. "I want to make music and be thought of as attractive."
During the interview, Mayer also explained his self-imposed pop music sabbatical after two controversial interviews he gave in the midst of his tabloid-grabbing relationships.

"The elephant in the room is that we’re sort of talking about the double-headed dragon of the Rolling Stone interview and the Playboy interview," he said, realizing he had started to become a "clichéd rock star."
“I basically realized I’m no good at that, so I’m going to drop that major," the guitarist added. "What I did was probably semiconsciously just reboot it — control, alt, delete."
Now, after several toned down releases, with Mayer's new album, The Search for Everything, out April 14, the rock artist says he's ready to make bigger pop anthems again, a la "Your Body Is a Wonderland," likening the feat to how actor George Clooney effortlessly navigates between passion projects and big budget movies.

"There’s a guy who can make art house films and then just decide that he’s going to be in a blockbuster," he explained. "I remember thinking to myself, 'OK, I’m going to basically come out of retirement from blockbusters. It’s a choice to write pop songs, just like it’s a choice to write blues songs or folk songs. Let’s write the big ones that we are capable of writing'."

Meanwhile, though Mayer has taken a break from the dating scene himself, the musician did recently play matchmaker for all those lonely hearts on Valentine's Day!
